Introduction - Surgical Asepsis- Equipment Preparation - Radiographer Preparation |
Radiographic System Aseptic Preparation | Page 4/9 |
When taking radiographs using the mobile x-ray unit, the cassette will indefinitely be in contact with the surgical site. Thus the cassettes will also have to be aseptically prepared. Sterile plastic disposable covers are provided for such function. Alternatively, sterile OT drapes can be used instead. When using the OT drapes technique, the radiographer is NOT the one holding the sterile drapes (for obvious reasons!) but rather it is either the sterile OT nurse or the surgeon. The radiographer will then placed the cassette onto the out-stretched sterile drape taking care not to touch the later. This video2 will show you how this is carried out during the operation. |
